An explosion early Monday rocked a Forestville area home, blowing out windows and damaging a wall.
The cause appeared to be a candle burning too close to an aerosol can, said Forestville Fire Chief Dan Northern.
Firefighters went to the River Road triplex home of Martha Mullen at about 5 a.m.
The explosion caused significant damage to the tiny apartment, estimated at 450-square-feet.
Firefighters found shattered windows and a wall was so damaged that a support beam was knocked out of place in the ceiling.
There was evidence of a fire flash, but other than that, no flames.
“A candle on the floor was too close to an aerosol can. It must have heated the can to the point it exploded,” Northern said.
The renter escaped possibly serious injuries.
“She had singed hair. She was sleeping fairly close to it,” Northern said. “She could have been hurt.”
Firefighters shut off the utilities to the two-story triplex near Scenic Drive. The damage left the home uninhabitable.
