A contingent of military vehicles rolls past the crowd down Kentucky Street during the 2009 Veterans Day parade in Petaluma. About 120 entries took part in the parade, the largest in the North Bay.

Sonoma County's annual military tradition honoring those who served, the Petaluma Veterans Day Parade, begins at 1 p.m. Thursday.

It starts at Fourth and D streets at Walnut Park, then winds through downtown and ends up back at the park along Petaluma Boulevard.

A ceremony with military and political speakers will begin at 3 p.m. in the park.

Like last year, private donors paid for the $12,000 in city costs, including police presence and street closures, because the city cut funding for most community events.

The parade will pass the Petaluma Historical Museum, at 20 Fourth St., where the current exhibit is on the Vietnam War.
