A couple of crab fishermen capsized in the surf off Bodega Bay Sunday morning, but made it safely to shore following their frigid dip.
Dispatchers got a call around 8:40 a.m. of two people with potential hypothermia on Doran Beach.
Coast Guard and Bodega Bay fire units responded the scene, where they found a man and a woman in their 40s cold but otherwise unharmed by their ordeal.
“A small recreational vessel was hauling in their sport crab pots when it capsized,” said Bob Paulino, boatswain's mate with the U.S. Coast Guard.
The couple had been in a 15-foot boat tending a crab pot when a wave sent them into the frigid surf, said Capt. Todd Rollings of the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District.
They couple, who had been wearing their life jackets, made it to shore on their own, where passersby called for help.
“Some good Samaritans had already given them some blankets,” Rollings said.
Both were treated and released at the scene.
