A 26-year-old East Bay resident who led authorities on a high speed chase through rural Petaluma before crashing his motorcycle into a Toyota Corolla was in critical condition Sunday, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital staff said.

Dominick Korcykoski of Walnut Creek remained at the hospital but was under arrest on suspicion of drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and recklessly evading officers during Saturday’s chase, the CHP said.

The Toyota’s driver, Michael Newhoff, 68, and passenger Edward Canobbio, 66, both of Oakland, were treated for minor injuries at Petaluma Valley Hospital, the CHP said.

The chase began just after 1 p.m. Saturday when officers tried to stop Korcykoski for a traffic violation on Lakeville Highway at South McDowell Boulevard, Acting CHP Sgt. David Derczo said.

Korcykoski didn’t stop and sped away on a 2008 Buell. He led officers on a chase through downtown Petaluma and westward on the two lane Bodega Avenue at speeds reaching 100 mph, Derczo said.

A Sonoma County sheriff’s helicopter crew helped track him from the air.

Korcykoski crashed at about 1:30 p.m. near Pepper Road when he tried to pass the Toyota. He clipped the vehicle and was ejected from the bike, the CHP said.
