Authors Susan Bono and Ransom Stephens host the next Aqus Speakeasy Literary Saloon from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 at Aqus Café Foundry Wharf, 189 H St.
Stephens is the author of "The God Patent" and Bono is editor-in-chief of Tiny Lights. The quartely literary series is co-hosted by John Crowley, co-owner of Aqus Cafe.
The featured authors include Susan Swartz, Luke Warm Water, Ken Weaver, Mark Sloan and Ethel Mays. There will also be a few open mic slots for people to share their own writings.
Susan Swartz, "Juicy Tomatoes" author, is a longtime columnist for the Press Democrat and public radio commentator, Swartz writes about women, the changing media, crazy-making politics and her un-retirement at www.juicytomatoes.com.
Mark Sloan has been a pediatrician for more than 30 years. His first book, "Birth Day: A Pediatrician Explores the Science, the History, and the Wonder of Childbirth" (Ballantine Books), was a 2009 Northern California Book Award finalist and a San Francisco Chronicle “Notable Bay Area Book of 2009.”
Ethel Mays is a Californian whose writing has been published in Canada, the U.S., and throughout her home state. Her work is in Whitefish Review, Sage Trail Poetry Magazine, and has been supported by Poets & Writers.
Luke Warm Water is a Lakota Tribe poet. He has won Poetry Slam competitions from California to Germany and was the first spoken-word poet to receive an Archibald Bush Foundation individual artist fellowship in literature. Luke's poetry appears in "Shedding Skins: Four Sioux Poets" (Michigan State University Press, 2008).
Ken Weaver is a writer, a beer journalist and a physicist. He received his MFA in creative writing from the University of Maryland and has taught creative writing in a remote Miskito village in Nicaragua. His work has appeared in elimae, Monkeybicycle, and McSweeney's Internet Tendency. His website is www.kmweaver.com.
