DUI suspect shears power pole, hits Forestville home

A drunken driving suspect veered off the road and into a Forestville home early Saturday morning, severing a power pole and cutting power to 22 customers, authorities said.

There were no apparent injuries in the 7:03 a.m. crash, and the driver reportedly walked away from the scene on Summerhome Park Road. He was detained about three-quarters of a mile away by officers, emergency personnel said.

Gary Jensen, 47, of Rohnert Park, was later arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and hit and run, authorities said.

He remained in the custody of the Sonoma County Jail on Saturday evening, with bail of $5,000, jail personnel said.

Forestville Fire Capt. Max Ming said the car appeared to have struck the power pole and then the front entrance area of the house before overturning.

Damage to the house was minimal, the CHP said. But the incident cut power along Summerhome Park and River roads, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

Lengthy repairs were required, and crews did not expect to restore power until about midnight Saturday, Morris said Saturday evening.

The impact brought the power pole and power lines onto the road near Ice Box Canyon Road, blocking the road for the remainder of the day, authorities said.
