CHP arrests 2 for suspected DUI

A BMW on Highway 101 was moving 85 mph through the Rohnert Park construction zone and then sped through city streets, driven by a suspected drunken driver with a DUI record, the CHP reported Monday.

Driver Kelly Lamoun, 28, of Rohnert Park was arrested at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Minutes before her arrest she drove past CHP Sgt. Kevin Mensior on Highway 101. He then paced her at 85 mph through the 55 mph construction area, reported CHP Officer Jon Sloat.

As he accelerated to catch up with her she got off the highway at the Rohnert Park Expressway, traveling 65 mph in the 45 mph zone, Sloat said.

The driver turned onto Country Club Drive, at 20 mph over the 25 mph limit before pulling over, Sloat said.

Lamoun appeared to be intoxicated, failed a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Her driving record also showed she was on probation for a prior DUI conviction.

She was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and was released after posting bail.

Early Monday morning CHP officers saw a driver make an illegal turn on Stony Point Road and Sebastopol Road. Officers Michael Ball and Patrick Naves stopped the driver, who acted suspicious, including making furtive movements around his pockets and waistband, Sloat said.

The officers were worried he had a weapon and ordered him to be still. He continued to move and was restrained, Sloat said.

They found a drug pipe in his pocket. The driver also had a license that had been suspended since 1997, Sloat said.

Officers arrested Benjamin Brambila, 34, of Petaluma on suspicion of drunken driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

He also was taken to jail and remained in custody Monday due to an immigration hold.
