Diseased oak cut down near Coddingtown

An old oak tree on the property that used to house Los Robles Lodge was cut down Monday morning because it was diseased and hazardous, said Lois Codding, vice president of leasing for Codding Enterprises.

The tree was one of several on the lot adjacent to Coddingtown Mall. The other trees remained intact, she said.

“It was a bit of a hazard trying to keep this tree up,” Codding said. “We tried to save it.”

Codding said there are no new plans for the property, which the company purchased in 2009. Codding Enterprises is talking to several people about possibilities, but the company was not yet close to any deals, she said.

Nearby, Coddingtown Mall will host a “glass breaking” ceremony at its East entrance on Thursday at 10 a.m. to reveal details about the mall's upcoming renovation.
