Mendocino County sheriff's deputies stopped a driver on a coastal road and found a felon carrying a gun, officials reported Monday.
Deputies arrested Jeff Yellow Bear McDonald, 36, of Fort Bragg.
He was stopped for vehicle violations at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Comptche Ukiah Road, south of Mendocino.
McDonald appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and was given a field sobriety test, officials said.
He was arrested on the suspected driving while drugged charge and deputies then found he was carrying ammunition and a drug pipe in a pocket.
They found a gun in the car.
Because he has a felony conviction, McDonald isn't allowed to have a gun or ammunition, so he also was arrested in connection with those crimes.
McDonald was taken to the Mendocino County Jail. Bail was set at $50,000.
