President Barack Obama on Tuesday signed a bill naming the post office in Inverness after Jake Robert Velloza, an Army specialist who was killed in Mosul, Iraq, weeks before his 23rd birthday in 2009.

PD FILEVelloza, a football and baseball star at Tomales High School, joined the Army in 2006 and was serving his second tour in Iraq when he was killed May 2, 2009. He is buried at Olema Cemetery.
He was the only child of Bob and Susan Velloza and was engaged to marry Danielle Erwin.
The bill by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma, was approved by the House of Representatives in March.
The post office naming will ensure that Velloza's name, “and a reminder of his service, will be permanently displayed in his hometown,” Woolsey said. “Future generations will know how Jake Velloza sacrificed for them.”
