A Mexican orchestra of disadvantaged youth arrives Thursday in Sonoma County for a five-day stay that includes a concert at Sonoma State University's Green Music Center.
The Orquesta Infantil Juvenil Lomas del Paraiso, from the city of Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, was started in its home city's poorest district, part of an initiative by the country's social services agencies.
The visit's centerpiece will be a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the music center's Weill Hall. Dignitaries, including the Mexican ambassador to the United States, are set to attend.
The trip was set up by the Santa Rosa Rotary Club and the Cultural Secretary of the State of Jalisco.
The concert is one of a series of events, including a barbecue Sunday at Keller Estate in Petaluma. Advance tickets are required for each occasion. For more information call Jose Guillen at 521-6855 or at http://doctor-shari-services.com/concert.
