Petaluma greentech startup HydroPoint Data Systems has raised $720,000 in venture funding and launched new technology for its web-based irrigation control system.

Customers who use its WeatherTrak water management system will save 17 billion gallons this year, the company said.

WeatherTrak downloads real-time data from 40,000 U.S. weather stations to control landscape irrigation at customers' locations.

On Tuesday, HydroPoint launched a web-based management application for WeatherTrak that helps users with site monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnostics and reporting.

WeatherTrak is used by corporations, commercial property managers, water distributors, developers, green irrigation designers and homeowners.

Earlier this month, HydroPoint sold $720,000 of a $2 million equity offering, according to U.S. securities regulators.

HydroPoint has raised more than $40 million in venture capital since it was founded in 2002. It has about 58 employees at its Petaluma headquarters.
