Unwanted or outdated electronic items can be disposed of safely, and for free, twice this month in Petaluma.

The city of Petaluma information technology team is partnering with Petaluma Green Team and Universal Waste Management to host free recycling services from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16 and 17 at the Petaluma Community Center at Lucchesi Park, 320 N. McDowell Blvd.

Goods accepted without charge are: laptop and desktop computers, printers, monitors and other accessories; miscellaneous electronics; TVs; fax machines; calculators; stereo equipment; and cordless and cell phones.

Microwaves will be accepted with a $5 fee and large appliances for a $40 fee per item.

Clothing and shoes also will be accepted.

Batteries and florescent light bulbs will not be accepted.

A second event will be July 30 and 31 at the Petaluma Goodwill Industries store at 1000 Lakeville St. That event, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is in the parking lot of Goodwill's retail store.
