Petaluma police are investigating another theft of copper at a Pacific Gas & Electric storage yard.

Thursday morning, employees reporting for work discovered someone had cut through a chain-link fence to enter a parts cage in the yard on Corona Road, Lt. Tim Lyons said.

The thief or thieves took a generator, chainsaw and copper wire. Stolen copper is commonly sold to recycle centers.

It was unclear how much the stolen equipment was worth, Lyons said.

The theft is the eighth at the PG&E site in the past two years. It was robbed in May and three times each in 2010 and 2009, Lyons said.
