Santa Rosa television station KFTY TV-50 has been renamed KEMO and begun broadcasting Spanish-language programs, Mexican television network Azteca America announced Monday.

The 30-year old station, which for years featured local English-language news broadcasts, was acquired by Azteca Una Vez Mas, a Dallas company that is Azteca America’s largest affiliate group. High Plains Broadcasting of Kaw City, Okla., sold the station for an undisclosed price.

KEMO can be viewed on Comcast Channel 31 and on channel 50 for DirecTV and Dish Network, Azteca America said. A spokesman said KEMO will continue to have staff based in Santa Rosa.

“The station has about a dozen employees and works with several local producers to produce local entertainment shows in addition to Azteca America network programming,” said Daniel McCosh, a network spokesman.

The purchase expands Azteca America’s reach in the Bay Area. The network estimated it is now available to more than 68 percent of U.S. Latinos.
