Santa Rosa schools assess impact of new state budget cuts

<p>Santa Rosa City Schools officials expect the $1 billion in statewide budget cuts announced Tuesday will cost the district $813,000 in funding during the current school year.</p><p>The cuts to school transportation could mean a loss of $618,000 in addition to approximately $195,000 in per-pupil funding, according to Kim Agrella, executive director of fiscal services for the district.</p><p>“We did plan for a larger reduction,” Agrella said. “This year we will be fine in our ending balance.”</p><p>If current state budget projections hold, the district will have to cut $3.8 million from the 2012-13 budget, Agrella told school board members Wednesday night. Those cuts could drop to $2.5 million if the school board pursues adding three furlough days to the current school year calendar, she said.</p>
