A 55-year-old Sebastopol man remained in custody Tuesday after he crashed a 1990 Corvette into a utility pole over the weekend and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, CHP officials said.
Patrick Curley sped through the Bloomefield area of Sebastopol at speeds reaching 100 mph before he lost control of the vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Officer Jon Sloat said.
He struck a culvert and spun into a utility pole on Highway 116 east of Bloomfield Road, Sloat said. A neighbor heard the crash and called 911.
Another neighbor called Sebastopol police to report that he saw Curley run away from the crash and chased after him, Sloat said. The resident detained Curley until police arrived, Sloat said.
Curley appeared intoxicated and became aggressive when he failed a field sobriety test, Sloat said.
Curley, who has several prior DUI and driving with a suspended license, was being held on $10,000 bail at the Sonoma County Jail and was scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday.
