An elderly Napa woman missing for three days after she didn't show up for a bridge game across town was found dead Monday more than two miles from her intended destination, Napa County sheriff's officials said.

Searchers found Margaret Bernice Key's car stuck in the mud about a half mile down a dirt road off Mount Veeder Road at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

The 87-year-old woman's body was found nearby, Stuart said.

“There is nothing to indicate that her death was anything other than a tragic accident,” Stuart said.

Margaret Bernice Key left her Hagen Road home in Napa on Friday to meet friends at the card game on Karen Drive on the west side of town, sheriff's officials said. Key never arrived.

She was last seen at 6 p.m. Friday when she stopped to ask directions at the Browns Valley market about a mile from her destination, Stuart said.

Key lived in a house on property with one of her children and had never been to the Karen Drive house, Stuart said.

She has been known to lose her way before but usually called or asked for directions, Stuart said. She was not otherwise considered to have dementia or significant memory loss, she said.

Authorities searched for Key over the weekend without success, Stuart said.

Key apparently missed a turn to head into the Brown Valley neighborhood and instead headed northwest toward Mount Veeder Road.

Searchers found her 2001 Buick LeSabre down a dirt road near 1800 Mount Veeder Road, Stuart said.
