Visitors to the Sonoma County Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa are finding the reception a bit chilly these days.

A problem with heating equipment has left parts of the facility at less than desirable temperatures.

“It hasn't been unbearable, but it hasn't been comfortable,” said Pete Peterka, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Building Committee.

County supervisors on Tuesday authorized spending $170,000 from the general fund to install new equipment that should restore heat to the entire facility.

The county hopes to have the that equipment up and running by the end of February, spokesman Jim Leddy said Wednesday.

Currently, only the main hall and front offices are being heated through the main system. Space heaters are being employed in other rooms.

The problems were first discovered in September when a gas leak forced the building's closure.

Leddy said no reservations have been canceled as a result of the heating problems.
