A driver going 96 mph on Highway 101 and found with 20 pounds of marijuana was so intoxicated he had to be helped out of his car, the CHP said.
At about 3 a.m. Monday, CHP Officer Michael Ball heard a citizen report about a speeding car on Highway 101 south of Windsor.
Ball stopped at Hopper Avenue in Santa Rosa and waited. Less than a minute later, a Ford Edge whizzed by, the CHP said.
Ball stopped the car and noticed an alcoholic beverage in the center console. The driver, Jonathan William Dould, 40, of Covelo, had to be helped out of the car, and failed sobriety tests. He refused to give a blood or breath test, the CHP said.
CHP Officer Greg White found in the car two garbage bags, two five-gallon buckets and a grocery bag — all filled with marijuana.
Dould was booked on suspicion of drunken driving, possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, having an open container, driving without a license, refusal to perform a chemical test and driving more than 30 mph over the speed imit while intoxicated.
Dould's brother later reported the car as stolen, and Dould also faces charges of vehicle theft.
He also was found to have a $20,000 warrant for his arrest in Mendocino County.
