A North Coast resident attempting to break up an argument Monday night became the target as he was then pummeled by two others and suffered head injuries.
Edwin Loftesnes, 38, was flown by medical helicopter to a Santa Rosa hospital.
Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a 17-year-old and Adam Azbill, 22, on suspicion of felony battery with serious injury, reported Sgt. Brad Burke.
Witnesses called for help at 8:45 p.m., reporting that two males were beating another male.
Deputies were called to an address at the Kashia Reservation along Stewarts Point Skaggs Spring Road, near Tin Barn Road.
They determined the teen and Azbill had been drinking together and then began arguing. Loftesnes attempted to intervene and as the three were talking, Azbill allegedly punched the man in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground.
Azbill and the teen then kicked and beat Loftesnes repeatedly about his upper body and head, witnesses said.
The suspects left the area. Deputies found them at about 11:15 p.m. in a vehicle parked near Lake Sonoma, Burke said.
They were arrested and taken into custody. The adult suspect was in violation of probation from a prior conviction. The teen was in violation of his juvenile probation.
All three males knew each other and were residents of the North Coast area.
