Rep. Thompson's name used in email scam

<p>U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a suspected Internet financial scam that incorporated a real message from Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, the congressman's office said Wednesday.</p><p>The suspect email, known as a “Nigerian scam,” asks recipients to send $55 to a fraudulent email address, enabling someone who claims to be a U.S. ambassador to Ghana to bring a much larger amount of money into the United States.</p><p>Attached to the email is a Sept. 29, 2010, message from Thompson regarding his testimony on a bill opposed by the wine industry and other groups.</p><p>“Please be advised not to send money or give out any personal information,” Thompson's office said in a news release.</p>
