A Sonoma man and his female passenger were killed late Friday night when their vehicle veered of Highway 12 and struck a tree near Glen Ellen, the CHP said.
Authorities said the eastbound 1995 Dodge Neon had been traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the road on a sweeping right-hand curve east of Trinity Road and hit the tree, causing major damage in the front seat area of the car.
The driver, Justin Perkins, 24, was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car in the 11:55 p.m. crash, the CHP said.
His passenger, Sonoma resident Morgan Marcy, 28, was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene from the impact, authorities said.
It was the third fatal accident in Sonoma County on the same day, beginning with a motorcyclist, Guerneville resident Glenn Richard Vierra, 58, who died when an unlicensed driver pulled out of a parking lot into his path on Highway 116 near Cotati on Friday morning, the CHP said.
Shortly after mid-day, a speeding vehicle on Bohemian Highway flew off the road and into the parking lot at Sonoma Canopy Tours near Camp Meeker, taking the life of a Petaluma woman, Nola Mary Wolf, 61, authorities said.
