<p class="bold allcaps">Letter of the Day: Fluoride compromise</p> <p>EDITOR: Kelley Larsen's Close to Home column (“Some arguments against fluoridating our water,” Thursday) opposing water fluoridation is the best I've read. I'm appalled at fluoridation proponents who show no consideration for individual choice.</p><p>With that in mind, I offer a compromise: How about those who want fluoridated water fluoridate their own?</p><p>It could be as simple as allowing fluoride to be sold in stores so folks could buy it and add it to their water should they choose. Taking it a step further, we already have home water softening and filtering systems, so how about someone developing a home fluoridation system? </p><p>It might be illegal to sell fluoride on the retail market. If that's the case, both sides could work together to legalize it for those who want to buy fluoride and use it in their drinking water. In the end, such a compromise should make everyone happy.</p><p>FRED MANGELS</p><p>Eureka</p>
