A four-car collision on the Golden Gate Bridge Tuesday morning during the commute brought bridge traffic to a standstill and temporarily stacked up traffic approaching the iconic span, reported the CHP.

At least one person was taken to a hospital after the 8:17 a.m. crash, said CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett.

The crash occurred in the middle of the bridge in northbound lanes. The wrecks blocked the northbound lanes until about 9:05 a.m.

CHP officers and emergency crews struggled to get to the crash due to the stopped traffic and lack of a roadway shoulder.

Southbound traffic was stopped periodically to allow emergency vehicles to use those lanes to make their way to and from the scene.

Drivers unable to get off the bridge had to wait out the effort.

“It was a standstill. They were stuck,” said Bartlett.
