Two Vallejo boys, aged 7 and 10, suffered major head injuries in a Tuesday morning vehicle crash that temporarily closed down Highways 37 and 121 near Sears Point, the CHP said.
The youths were passengers in their father's westbound Honda Civic when the 38-year-old driver collided with a Toyota Scion driven by a 53-year-old Fairfield woman around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, the CHP said.
Both drivers were taken by ground ambulance to local hospitals for treatment of injuries, but the boys were airlifted by REACH helicopter to Oakland Children's Hospital, the CHP said.
Both were said to be conscious and responsive, though their conditions were not known.
Investigators were trying to determine from where and in what direction the Scion was traveling before the crash occurred.
The crash caused substantial backup during the morning commute, but the intersection was cleared after about 40 minutes, authorities said.
