This week, voters are receiving ballot pamphlets and, for those who requested them, absentee ballots for the June 5 primary. In recognition that some people plan to vote right away, here's a list of our recommendations so far.

Supervisor, 1st District — Mark Bramfitt

Bramfitt is well versed on 1st District needs having served on the Valley of the Moon Water District, LAFCO and other boards. His professional background make him ideally suited to confront major county issues on water and energy and whether to create a local “green” power agency. Bramfitt also offers practical, no-nonsense approaches to addressing the county's financial challenges.

Supervisor, 3rd District — Shirlee Zane

As it completes a transition on the Board of Supervisors, the county needs independent leaders who won't postpone tough decisions, who aren't beholden to special interests, who are willing to try new approaches. During her first term, Zane demonstrated these attributes, emerging as an advocate for pension reform, mental health and early intervention programs.

Supervisor, 5th District — Efren Carrillo

Despite the fiscal challenges of his first term, Carrillo has served with distinction, repeatedly demonstrating his ability to wade through complex, fluid issues, infuse energy and creative thinking to the position and make hard choices that are in the best interests of the overall region.
