Spare the Air day Saturday

Bay Area air quality officials have declared Saturday a Spare the Air day around the region, meaning hot, still conditions are likely to produce poor air quality.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid driving as much as possible, use bikes and public transportation, or travel in car pools, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said.
Residents also are asked to restrict household energey use and limit use of products that could contribute to air pollution, including gaspowered leaf blowers and lawn mowers, barbecue lighter fluids and aerosol sprays.
Air quality is forecast to be especialy poor in the East Bay and the Santa Clara Valley, the air district said.
This is the first Spare the Air day of the season, which began May 2.
