A man apparently drowned Saturday afternoon at a treacherous beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore, authorities said.
National Park Service rangers spotted a body floating in the Pacific Ocean off McClures Beach at the north end of the national seashore about 3:30 p.m., said Mike Giannini, a Marin County Fire department battalion chief.
There were reports that the man had been fishing, but no confirmation of his identity of how he drowned, Giannini said. His body was recovered by Park Service rangers.
The Park Service website warns of “intense surf” and sneaker waves at McClures Beach and advises people to stay at least 30 yards from the water.
