Lake County inmate escapes jail at work detail

<p>A 50-year-old Lake County jail inmate remained at large Sunday, more than 24 hours after he slipped away from a work detail, Lake County sheriff's officials said.</p><p>Alden Vincent Miller of Upper Lake was assigned to work at the county public works department yard on Mendenhall Avenue as part of his sentence for a drug conviction, Capt. Chris Macedo said.</p><p>A public works employee first realized he was gone at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday as he unloaded a truck, officials said.</p><p>The employee found Miller's work shirt and hat near the corner of First and Sabini streets in Upper Lake, not far from the yard, Macedo said.</p><p>Deputies searched the area but did not find him.</p><p>Sheriff's officials first reported Miller's escape Sunday.</p><p>Public works staff pick up inmates from the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and bring them to the work site, Macedo said.</p><p>Anyone with information about Miller's whereabouts can call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 263-2690.</p>
