Alden Vincent Miller of Upper Lake was assigned to work at the county public works department yard on Mendenhall Avenue as part of his sentence for a drug conviction, Capt. Chris Macedo said.

A public works employee first realized he was gone at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday as he unloaded a truck, officials said.

The employee found Miller's work shirt and hat near the corner of First and Sabini streets in Upper Lake, not far from the yard, Macedo said.

Deputies searched the area but did not find him.

Sheriff's officials first reported Miller's escape Sunday.

Public works staff pick up inmates from the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and bring them to the work site, Macedo said.

Anyone with information about Miller's whereabouts can call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 263-2690.
