A high-speed pursuit that began in Cotati late Friday night ended in Novato when the suspect fled and the CHP officer pursuing him fractured his leg.
Several bags of marijuana were discovered in the Chevrolet truck driven by the suspect, who escaped on foot and remains at large, according to the CHP.
CHP officers deployed spike strips across the Highway 101 near the Redwood Sanitary Landfill, blowing out the suspect's tires. The driver got off the highway at Delong Avenue, plowed into a street light and then ran into a neighborhood, Sgt. Chris Linehan said.
The officer, who was not identified, was chasing the suspect in the dark and collided with a barrier, Linehan said. The officer was taken to Kaiser Permanente and is on the mend.
“Hes doing fine,” Linehan said.
