Petaluma police say a man wearing dark makeup on his face held up a check-cashing store in a busy shopping center on North McDowell Boulevard near East Washington Street on Tuesday afternoon.

The man made off with an undisclosed amount of money, and a search of the area by police was unsuccessful.

The robber reportedly entered the Check-n-Go check-cashing business at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday, pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at a clerk, demanding money.

He was last seen running toward a McDonald's parking lot.

He was described as a white man, aged 30-to-40-years-old, and standing 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8.

He had brown hair and dark colored face makeup.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at (707) 778-4372.
