Report of gunshots briefly locks down Clearlake school

<p>An elementary school in Clearlake was on lockdown Wednesday after a school employee heard what was believed to be gunshots.</p><p>The Clearlake Police Department was notified at 12:50 p.m. Officials at Burns Valley School initiated a lockdown as a precautionary measure while eight or nine police officers checked the surrounding area, said Lt. Tim Celli.</p><p>One neighbor had heard gunshots, but others said they didn't hear the disturbance.</p><p>Officers found no evidence of gunshots and have no clue what caused the sounds, Celli said.</p><p>"It could have been a car backfiring, who knows," Celli said. "There were a few parents there, but nobody seemed worried."</p><p>The school ground was deemed safe and campus was re-opened about 20 minutes later.</p><p>-- Cathy Bussewitz</p>
