Final U-Pick Sunday of the Season: This Sunday, Nov.4, Bloomfield Farms hosts a final opportunity of the season to pick your own vegetables, explore the farm, hang out and enjoy a farm brunch prepared by chef John Lyle.
Here's how it works. Email UPICK@bloomfieldfarmorganics.com to let them know you're coming and how many of you there will be. Arrive between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. dressed in layers and boots or hiking shoes and bring gloves, a knife for cutting lettuce and broccoli and a container for your harvest (if you don't have a suitable container, the farm will provide one). Cost of the produce is $25; eggs are extra.
Feel free to bring the kids and pack a picnic. If you'd rather have chef Lyle cook for you, it's a pay-what-you-can day.
Bloomfield Farms is located at 12550 Valley Ford Road in Bloomfield.

Mark Your Calendars: This year, the new Santa Rosa French-American Charter School has joined with the Alliance Francaise de Santa Rosa to present the annual Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration. We think it's a perfect fit.
This year's fete will take place at the Agatha Furth Center (8400 Old Redwood Highway, Windsor) on Friday, Nov. 16 from
6 to 9 p.m.
In addition to the year's first wine and yummy French-inspired nibbles, the fete will include live music and a raffle and auction of gift baskets designed by each class and a large joint-effort basket from the entire school.
Advance tickets, $35, can be bought at the school, which is located at 1350 Sonoma Ave. in Santa Rosa, and at srfacs.org. All proceeds benefit the Santa Rosa French-American Charter School.
The season of arts and crafts fairs has begun: For the next several weeks, there will be local arts and crafts fairs in neighborhoods throughout the North Bay. If you are hosting one or want to recommend a favorite, send details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This weekend, more than 30 vendors will participate in West County Craft Fair on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sebastopol Grange Hall (6000 Highway 12). Admission is free and the sale is a benefit for the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Vendors will offer clothing, jewelry, functional art, locally made crafts and delicious sweets and savories. Admission is free.
The Sonoma County Museum (425 Seventh St., Santa Rosa) is hosting a fine craft auction on Saturday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free and light appetizers and cocktails will be served. The auction began in late October, with bids taken online, by phone and in person, and you can preview auction items through today at 5 p.m. For free admission to the museum, tell the staff you'd like to place a bid. The Salmon Creek Art Walk takes place this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Here's how it works: Five artists of Salmon Creek Village, located one mile north of the town of Bodega Bay, host nearly a dozen additional artists for a two-day sale. You'll find everything from beautiful turned wood, silk scarves, faerie skirts, faerie wings, fae bustles and reclaimed metal sculpture to paintings, prints, photography, gourds, collage and glass design. Lao Food Festival: Wat Lao Saysettha (3625 Moorland Ave., Santa Rosa) is hosting another celebration this weekend.
On Saturday, a food festival celebrating Ork Phunsaa — which marks the end of three months of Buddhist Lent, begins at noon and continues until about 5 p.m. Menu items, which are purchased individually, include Kao Soi (Northern-Lao style noodle soup); Seua Hong Hai (“Weeping Tiger,” or beef steak with dipping sauce) and Laab Khai (chicken salad), along with stuffed chicken wings, green papaya salad, sticky rice, egg rolls, coconut pancakes, a fried banana dessert and Thai iced tea and coffee. If you want to take any items home, be sure to bring your own containers.
There is no admission charge to the food festival.
At about 5 p.m., there is a beautiful ceremony that involves the release of banana-leaf boats decorated with candles, incense and small flowers and known throughout Laos and Thailand as Loy Krathong. If you'd like to stay for this, there's a suggested donation to the temple of $5.
Sunday's events begin with a ceremony of food offerings at 10 a.m. and a community potluck at noon. If enough people miss Saturday's Loy Krathong, it may be repeated on Sunday.
The Lao community is very welcoming of visitors eager to connect and enjoy their unique foods and rituals, so don't be shy. You may arrive a stranger but you'll leave feeling like a friend.
Balletto Vineyards & La Gare Team Up: Next Tuesday, Nov. 6, La Gare French Restaurant (208 Wilson St., Santa Rosa) welcomes John Balletto and his winemaker, Anthony Beckman, for a special dinner featuring Balletto wines, several of them gold medal winners at this year's Harvest Fair, with each course.
The evening begins at 6 .m. with calamari, paté and smoked salmon accompanied by 2011 Rosé of Pinot Noir.
Next comes a baby spinach salad napped in a warm honey mustard dressing with mushrooms, eggs, bacon and dried berries and 2011 Teresa's Unoaked Chardonnay alongside.
Following the salad, you'll tuck into a salmon cake with Dungeness crab legs in a citrus beurre blanc. Alongside, it's 2011 Pinto Gris.
Balletto 2011 Pinot Noir will be served with a wild boar ragu over fresh pasta and 2007 Zinfandel concludes the savory portion of the meal with local lamb chops, potatoes gratin and Swiss chard.
The grand finale is 2010 Gewurztraminer and a Napoleon layered with caramel mousse, creme brulee and Valrhona chocolate ganache.
Cost is $75 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required; snag yours by calling 528-4355.
