A gunman robbed the North Dutton Avenue branch of Redwood Credit Union late Monday morning, but police later arrested two suspects at a nearby apartment complex, Santa Rosa police said.
David Lanterman, 51, and Ashley McSweeney, 29, both of Santa Rosa, were booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of robbery, Sgt. David Linscomb said.
Lanterman also was being held on suspicion of burglary and on a warrant for driving with a suspended license, jail officials said.
Lanterman was being held on $215,000 bail and McSweeney on $100,000.
Linscomb said detectives found evidence of the robbery at an apartment the suspects share in the 2100 block of West Steele Lane. Police also were investigating whether they were involved in other robberies.
Credit union officials reported at 11:41 a.m. that a man with a gun and wearing a fake gray beard had robbed the branch, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.
Police suspect Lanterman wore the disguise and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, jumping into a full-size pickup driven by McSweeney.
Dispatchers relayed that information to other officers in the area, who spotted a similar pickup near the Cedar Woods apartment complex on West Steele Lane, Banayat said.
After an officer pulled behind the pickup in the driveway of the complex, Lanterman jumped out and ran, and McSweeney drove off, police said. She was detained a short distance away in front of the complex.
When other officers arrived, Lanterman was discovered in the apartment the two share, was ordered out at gunpoint and taken into custody, police and witnesses said.
Police tape blocked the entrances to the credit union branch Monday afternoon, and signs on the doors read, "Emergency: This office is temporarily closed."
Employees remained inside the branch, and customers continued to use the ATM outside.
