A necropsy conducted by UC Davis veterinary specialists has confirmed a horse shot Sunday morning while standing in a pasture in the hills above Bennett Valley died as a result of the gunshot wound.
The Sonoma County Sheriff Office’s agricultural crimes detective and several search-and-rescue volunteers returned to the scene to conduct a grid search for more evidence. The Sheriff’s Office received the necropsy results Thursday.
Delta Fox, a 17-year-old male American warmblood, and two other horses were out in a pasture Sunday morning at about 8:30 a.m. when a gunshot rang out. Delta Fox sprinted back to the stables, collapsed and died.
Sheriff’s officials ask that anyone with information about the incident call Detective Tony King at 707-565-2185.
