A trucker hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with drilling equipment missed a curve on Highway 20 in Lake County and overturned early Thursday morning, closing down the road for about 30 minutes and then one lane of it for another 2 1/2 hours, the CHP said.
Authorities said it appeared the 52-year-old driver, Bobby Fackrell, was traveling at too high a speed to avoid leaving the roadway as he passed through the community of Lucerne on the north shore of Clear Lake.
Fackrell, a Hopland man, suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for treatment, the CHP said.
The eastbound Freightliner was pulling a 40- or 45-foot trailer when the driver lost control of it shortly before 4:30 a.m., overturned onto its left side and struck two parked vehicles, CHP and fire personnel said.
The crash closed the lane in both directions at first, but authorities established one-way traffic control through the area to guide motorists around the wreckage until 7:36 a.m., the CHP said.
