Pedestrian hit by SUV in Santa Rosa

A man was struck by an SUV during Monday's busy evening commute near downtown Santa Rosa.

The incident occurred at 5:52 p.m. in an eastbound lane of College Avenue approaching Mendocino Avenue.

The man apparently stepped off a sidewalk into the path of the white Ford SUV, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Clay Van Artsdalen said.

The man was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. But his injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening, Van Artsdalen said.

Firetrucks and patrol cars blocked the road as officers analyzed the crash scene.

Officers were investigating the cause of the crash and did not yet know who was at fault, Van Artsdalen said. They were unable to interview the pedestrian, he said.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were unavailable.
