Santa Rosa man burned in drug-making attempt arrested

<p>While allegedly making hash oil in his downtown Santa Rosa apartment, a young man suffered minor burns when the effort caused a flash fire, police and fire officials reported.</p><p>Eric Michael Weems, 22, suffered burns to his face. He was treated and taken to jail.</p><p>The fire set off sprinklers in the new complex at Tenth Street and Healdsburg Avenue.</p><p>An alarm company called to report a possible fire, bringing Santa Rosa firefighters to the complex at about 10:15 p.m.</p><p>Police found Weems had set up a small lab for making hash oil from marijuana, said Santa Rosa police Sgt. Lisa Banayat.</p><p>"It's highly flammable," Banayat said.</p><p>Weems was arrested on suspicion of making drugs and failing to register a change of address as a sex offender, both felonies. He remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail.</p>
