Ukiah police have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected to have taken part in a reported shooting Dec. 2.
Police said Markeese Mondale Brantley, formerly of Fort Meyers, Fla., and another unidentified suspect were involved in a dispute with a third man that led to the shooting last Sunday, near Mason and Clara streets.
Police said Brantley and the 19-year-old victim, whose name was not disclosed, knew each other through previous drug deals and that the meeting was arranged to settle a debt.
Brantley brandished a handgun at the man and ultimately shot him when he tried to drive away, police said.
The victim suffered what police said was a severe injury to his arm and underwent surgery this week. Police said he was in stable condition.
On Tuesday, police searched Brantley’s house, in the 600 block of North State Street, and arrested him at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, robbery and criminal conspiracy. The handgun suspected to have been used in the shooting was not recovered.
A search continues for the second suspect.
