The closure of Highway 1 north of Jenner due to storm damage will be extended to next Friday, Caltrans has announced.
Strong rains this week caused a rock and mud slide on Wednesday that initially covered one lane of the coast highway and was moving onto a second lane.
Clean up has been underway since then with the goal of reopening the highway by the end of this week. But Caltrans officials said Friday night that a longer closure is now necessary to allow work crews the time to make long term repairs.
The new anticipated opening time is 4 p.m. Friday, though officials also suggested a longer closure may be necessary.
Motorists can detour around the problem area by taking Meyers Grade and Fort Ross roads. The detour is approximately 6 miles long.
