My wish for Christmas is for every one of us – from the treehuggers to the hunters, from the city council members to the members of the House and the Senate, from the K Street lobbyists to the barber-shop libertarians – to ask ourselves the same questions that President Barack Obama asked on Sunday night in Newtown, Conn.:

“What choice do we have?” Obama said. “Are we really prepared to say that we're powerless in the face of such carnage, that the politics are too hard? Are we prepared to say that such violence visited on our children year after year after year is somehow the price of our freedom?”

Ask the questions. Answer them. And let there be peace on Earth.

Chris Coursey's blog offers a community commentary and forum, from issues of the day to the ingredients of life in Sonoma County.
