Casa loses marathon four overtime game

Casa Grande High School’s Gauchos finally ran out of steam, losing a marathon game at Redwood last week, 80-67, in a contest that went four overtimes.
Casa Grande led 23-17 at the half and 31-30 after three quarters. A wild final period found both teams carrying 48 points at the buzzer.
Each team scored seven points in the first overtime, four in the second and five in the third.
Redwood’s host Giants finally took charge in the fourth overtime, outscoring the Gauchos, 16-3.
Cetrick Yeanay continued his high-scoring ways with 28 points for the Gauchos, with Aaron Dal Poggetto adding 12. Yeanay was six of 12 from 3-point range.
Jon Christy grabbed 12 rebounds and Jake Ielmorini 10 for the Gauchos, with Ielmorini also having five steals.
Senior Samson Donick was unstoppable for Redwood, scoring 30 points that included three 3-point baskets in five attempts. He also pulled down 11 rebounds. Teammate Joe Compagno helped with 21 points.
Now 3-2 for the season, Casa Grande hosts its own Brett Callan Memorial Tournament this week, with the Gauchos opening Thursday night at 8 o’clock against Alameda.
Redwood is now 7-3.
