SACRAMENTO — They may look tasty but a California official warns people to stay away from wild mushrooms.
The Stockton Record (http://bit.ly/VfoJyC ) says seasonal rains are prompting the growth of wild mushrooms but the head of the Department of Public Health, Ron Chapman, says it's hard to distinguish which ones are safe to eat.
Last month four people died and two were sickened at an elder-care home in Loomis after a caretaker served them gravy made from mushrooms that sprouted in the backyard.
That woman was barred for life from working in such facilities.
