The rescue crew of the Bodega Bay Coast Guard was kept busy on Christmas night, when an emergency signal rang out west of Salmon Creek Beach.
It was a kayaker, who planned to paddle his 21-foot vessel all the way to Hawaii. He made it about 15 nautical miles.
"He left from Bodega Bay, and he was planning on kayaking to Hawaii," said Matthew Foussadier, boatswain mate third class. "He said his vessel was taking on water."
The call came in at 6:45 p.m. A helicopter flew to the scene from San Francisco, and a motor lifeboat was dispatched from Bodega Bay to rescue the ambitious boater. The kayaker was unharmed, and has no medical issues, Foussadier said.
