Petaluma police Monday were investigating a 14-year-old girl’s report that a man asked her to get into his car outside a westside elementary school.

The encounter was reported at 1:56 p.m. near McKinley Elementary School off East Washington Street, Officer Nicholas Raccanello said.

He said the girl, who attends a different school, told police the man asked if she needed a ride.

The girl refused and kept walking, but the man apologized and asked again, telling her she was beautiful and insisting she get into his car, Raccanello said.

The girl flagged down a passer-by and the suspect drove away.

He was described as bald, 20 to 30 years old with tan skin and no facial hair. The man wore a black T-shirt and drove what appeared to be a newer gray Chevrolet SUV with chrome rims.
