A Santa Rosa man who may have been hit by a car or assaulted remained in critical condition Tuesday with life-threatening injuries, reported Santa Rosa police.
Detectives have been unable to speak to the man due to his injuries.
The man, described as being in his 60s, was found unconscious on Peterson Lane near Guerneville Road on Friday at about 9 p.m.
Sgt. Dave Linscomb Tuesday said the investigation is stymied with the victim's inability to tell them what happened.
But a witness reported seeing a car in the area at the time the man was found. Police are trying to find the driver and passenger in the car, which was described as a compact white car, possibly a sedan or a coup, with a loud exhaust. There appeared to be two men inside.
Police aren't identifying the injured man, saying they aren't sure whether he was a victim of someone still at large.
Linscomb asked anyone with information to phone detectives at (707) 543-3595.
