A Honeydew man who may have been intoxicated died after he crashed his pickup off of a rural road in southern Humboldt County, reported the CHP.

The driver, James Vincent Carpenter, 43, crashed early Saturday while driving on Mattole Road in Petrolia, reported CHP Sgt. Randy England.

His 1997 pickup ran off of the roadway and down an embankment. The truck rolled and landed on its wheels.

Carpenter wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, England reported.
