Kindergarten registration underway

Registration for kindergarten and Kinder Prep programs is now underway in most area school districts.
In general, kindergarten is open to children who turn five by Oct. 1, 2013. While new programs, designed to give the youngest five year olds a bridge between preschool and kindergarten, is open to chidden who turn five by Dec. 31, 2013. The new program is called Kinder Prep in the Petaluma City schools District, Kindergarten Academy in the Old Adobe School District and by other names in other districts.
In most districts, registration should be made at schools within the district where they live.
Parents should bring with them a copy of the child’s birth certificate, passport or baptismal record and two documents showing proof of residency.
The Petaluma City Schools District requires a child to have a physical examination and oral health assessment prior to entering kindergarten.
Kindergarten students must also have proof of complete immunization records at the time of enrollment. Children will not be admitted to a classroom in the fall unless the immunizations are up to date.
