A good many commuters on Highway 37 in Sonoma County's southeast corner phoned Sonoma Raceway in recent months, quite concerned.
They asked, Where's the cow?
“Burnin' Bovine,” a souped-up hotrod of a fiberglass cow, had stood on the great raceway marquee since 2004. Artist Eric Reyes had decked it out as one of the 42 statues personalized and displayed for Sonoma Valley's benefit public-art project, COWS!
Burnin' Bovine came down off the highway sign last fall for a bath and re-painting. Reyes spent more than 50 hours beautifying her prior to her being hoisted back up onto the raceway sign on Monday.
Drive by and you'll see she now sports new face paint, an ivory base coat and racy flames that fade from yellow to tangelo pearl.
The traffic is intense right there so check her out as you drive by, but keep mooooving.
